Clutch: I Can’t Cook, but My Fridge Can (Almost)

Seriously, no matter how hard I try, I can’t cook. I have accepted it. Hey, we can’t have it all right. So, when I recently read an article about the LG “smart fridge,” I felt like they had invented it with me in mind. The fridge was revealed at CES this year and let me tell you, it’s not just smart, it’s GENIUS! Although it can’t technically cook for you, it does everything else. And I mean everything.

The LG Smart Refrigerator comes equipped with a touch screen directly on one side of the door, which you can use (or voice recognition) to communicate with the fridge to know exactly what’s inside. Via the touch screen, you simply choose an image of the product, then it uses a control management system to keep track of the items inside, including the freshness and expiration dates. What?!

It does more than that; it can suggest recipes using the ingredients available. My dream come true. I never know what to cook, or any good recipes and end up throwing away all the groceries I just bought because they get hidden behind all the stuff I buy and I forget about them. With this bad boy coming to the market, I don’t have to worry anymore. In addition to suggesting recipes, it can also create menus based on personal profiles including age, weight, body mass index etc. No need for a dietitian anymore when you have this fridge.

Prior to this ridiculously awesome invention, I always thought fridges were useless, just a waste of space that kept drinks cold. Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner? And oh, just to add to the amazingness, you can use your smartphone to scan the barcodes of items, which it will then monitor and can even add items that are low to a grocery list on your phone or the touch screen panel on the fridge, so you know to buy it next time you are out and about. Genius. It’s the worst when you need to buy one item, drag yourself all the way to the store, get distracted, travel all the way home, just to realize you forgot to buy that one item. With this, forget no more.

Whoa, before I forget, one more thing, the fridge can even turn on your oven for you (all have to be connected through Wi-Fi of course). This is just too good to be true. Considering the one time I tried to cook an actually fancy meal, had the table set and everyone waiting and hungry, I forgot to turn on the oven. Three hours later, I served a table full of cranky people dinner. Nobody’s perfect, but this fridge is!
