AsiaMedia Journal reported this week that HBO Asia went HD. This makes HBO Asia the first regional movie channel to broadcast in HD. On Thursday, October 1, HBO will be available in HD to subscribers in Singapore and the Philippines, and in Hong Kong from 6 October and plans to roll out more countries before the year ends.

And via BroadbandTV, UPC Romania will officially launch its HD cable product also starting on October 1. To make it work, they called out the expensive big guns  — Cisco, Thomson and Pace to deliver the first five channels including Pro TV HD, TVR HD, Eurosport HD, History HD and Fashion TV. History and Fashion, together at last… in HD.

Cable Set Top Boxes Get cool

Yes you heard us correctly – CABLE Set top boxes. We did not say IPTV STBs, we said cable.

Cable, the perceived dinosaur of the Telco industry has cool STBs in France — enter Le Cube and HD Set Top box for cable. Gizomdo reports the Canal+ (naturally) teamed up with Jawbone (possibly the coolest Bluetooth headset maker in the galaxy and note that they have a product that is referred to as a Noise Assassin) to make Le Cube. Anyway, LeCube has DVR capabilities and a matching remote. Le Cool.

Denmark Scores again

This story has been all over the place, but Alan Harten from IPTV-Watch filled us in clearly — and he used some cool words like “big time” we which think is sorely missing from our vernacular these days. Anyway,  Danish utility company giant, TRE-FOR wanted HD IPTV and now they will get it via Tilgin and Nordija.  Their union will create a solution that is designed purely for TRE-FOR’s needs in the delivery of HD IPTV to its customers cause that is what we all want right? I am not even sure that most consumers even know what HD is or stands for, other than they now want it, therefore, they need it.
