Oblivion
This post has really NOTHING to do with work directly but it needed to be said. This morning on an early morning walk around the city pond in my neighborhood in Boston, I witnessed a turtle crawling away from the pond up to the busy parkway. I was really worried until an early morning fisherman told me that they are crawling away to lay their eggs. I felt better.
I kept on walking, relieved he was keeping an eye on her. I topped the hill full steam – and saw what looked like a dead turtle slumped up on the curb right next to the on ramp for the parkway. I looked closer and saw she was resting her head on the curb with her body sunk into the perfect hole she had dug and was indeed laying eggs. I stopped. Frozen. Amazing that despite all these harsh circumstances, she preservered. I decided I would stay nearby unless some dope thought to disturb her. I sat on the grass watching about 100 people, walk, run, cycle by and out of that 100 only 4 people stopped and noticed. Only 4.
I thought that it was amazing that so many people were oblivious to this and I wondered what the people that stopped were like – what they did for a living and why the could see it, but no one else could.
I felt like this was a great way to start a work week and that mabye we could take a lesson from this – preservence does pay off and sometimes the more difficult things are, the more rewarding they can be. Have a good week!
